Meu Rio

Meu Rio is an action network for a fairer, more inclusive and more participative Rio de Janeiro. Created in 2011, the initiative keeps up with public power actions, mobilizes people to participate in the decision making processes and organizes solidarity networks amongst cariocas (people from Rio de Janeiro).

In more than 10 years, alongside with the city’s social movements, collectives and organizations, Meu Rio was able to block the lifelong allowance for council members, to prevent the destruction of a green park and the closing of leading schools, to approve a law project that guarantees transparency in the public transportation system and to support communitary pre-college courses in the city.
